Technical Assistance Program

Free technical services to ensure business viability through increased productivity and management.


We are no longer accepting applications for the Small Business Technical Assistance Program.

The Prince William County Department of Economic Development in partnership with the Mason Small Business Development Center (Mason SBDC) has launched a Small Business Technical Assistance Program (SBTAP). The technical assistance program will ensure small business viability through increased productivity and management systems, especially as it relates to making informed business decisions to withstand the economic impacts of COVID-19. 

Prince William County will cover up to $10,000 for technical services in the following areas: 

Digital Marketing & E-Commerce 

  • Online shop maintenance 
  • SEO keyword targeting, site content and page optimization

IT Services 

  • Cybersecurity risk assessment & training
  • Application Integration

The SBTAP strengthens the opportunity for business success with start-to-finish guidance from subject matter experts. Program participants will access free business counseling with a Mason SBDC counselor to determine technical improvements needed to enhance business operations. From the one-on-one counseling through implementation of new operations systems, the technical assistance program is designed to be strategic and effective. 

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Must have a physical location in Prince William County 
  • Must be a for-profit business 
  • Must have 25 or fewer employees 
  • Must be current on PWC business taxes 
  • Adult entertainment business are not eligible

Businesses have access to a range of technical services that can be easily and quickly implemented. Services will only be offered from October until December 2020, so interested businesses need to act now. The earlier a business can complete the counseling session, the earlier the business can receive services.

I received support from another CARES Act program (e.g. an EIDL or PPP loan), am I eligible for the technical assistance program? Yes.
I own multiple businesses; can I apply for the Technical Assistance Program for each of them?

Yes. Each business must have its own EIN number; employee no more than 25 FTE employees and be current on Business License and Business Tangible Property taxes and have a Prince William County Business license, if applicable.

What happens if I am not eligible for the program?

Applicants not eligible for the program are invited to register for free counseling with the Mason SBDC and or sign up for a wide range of workshops. To review the services available at no cost to any business in Prince William County, visit

How will I know if my application is approved or denied?

All applicants will receive an email notification from Prince William County Economic Development with the decision within 10 business days of application acceptance.

What is the application process?

Up to $10,000 is available for small businesses with a proven need for technical improvements or updates to their business operations. Prince William County will cover the cost of certain technical services. Eligibility will be determined by the potential business development as it influences County economic indicators (workforce, commercial real estate, etc.). Technical services will be provided by vendors of Prince William County.

Eligible recipients will be required to register for free counseling session with a Mason SBDC counselor to review and assess the business needs and to guide the delivery of the technical services contracted by PWC for the applicant. All services must be completed by December 30th.
